Expeditions and your companion
Focus sessions, distractions, and the crystal that grows with them.
An expedition is a focus session on one thing: a side quest, or today's occurrence of a timed ritual. It's how time gets logged, and it's what grows your companion.

Starting one
- Press S anywhere and pick what to focus on, or use the start button on a side quest or ritual.
- On the side quest list, Shift S starts one on the highlighted row.
- You can only run one expedition at a time.
During the session
The dial shows elapsed time against your estimate. If you need longer, +15 min extends the time-box. You can leave the screen — the expedition keeps running, and S brings you back.
Distractions
If something pulls you away — your phone, Slack, email, a snack, a meeting — log it with one tap. Each logged distraction takes 5 minutes off your net focus time. It's not a punishment: an honest log is what makes your estimates and your Codex useful.
Your companion
The companion is a crystal that grows during each expedition, based on your net focus time (time spent minus distractions) compared with the estimate. Distractions change its state:
| State | When |
|---|---|
| Healthy | No distractions logged. |
| Strained | 1 or more distractions, or 15 minutes lost to them. |
| Faded | 3 or more distractions, or 30 minutes lost. |
Ending it
End the session (Enter on the expedition screen) to see the debrief: net focus, time lost, and the XP you earned — 1 XP per minute of net focus. Time is logged against the side quest or ritual, and a timed ritual counts as done once you reach 80% of its target.
An expedition left running for 4 hours without being ended is closed automatically as abandoned.
